On Monday, May 2, the Paperboard Packaging Alliance (PPA) sponsored a workshop at Rochester Institute of Technology’s packaging school. A full room of eager packaging and graphic design students participating in the 2016 PPA Student Design Challenge (SDC), faculty and program administration attended. John Chaisson of All-Pack and Lynsie Gibson of The Hygenic Corporation presented their portfolio of paperboard packages they designed throughout their career. Students were excited to hear about the concept and execution experiences for each package and the challenges the designers faced to meet the needs of the customers and manufacturing constraints.
The workshop concluded with speakers encouraging students to think about packaging in a way that is practical for consumer use, yet innovative in functionality.
PPA looks forward to visiting more schools in the future and encouraging students to explore the versatility of designing with paperboard!
